Changing shapes: Five conversations with Toer van Schayk

Each year the dansMuseum sets out to consider Dutch dance from new and surprising perspectives and this year is no exception. dansMuseum #5: Changing Shapes is an exhibition “in conversation” with one of the most multi-faceted artists in Dutch dance history: choreographer and visual artist Toer van Schayk.

Throughout his career, Toer van Schayk has defied any single form of artistic expression. From choreography to painting, sculpture to scenic design, the sheer breadth of his oeuvre stands as a testament to a life lived in and as art. To honor this—and in celebration of his 85th birthday—this year’s exhibition pays special tribute to his unique artistic vision and to the example he sets as a pioneering, multi-disciplinary dance artist.
